Rig 12 Returns from Crown
Rig 12 in TEC’s Yard Shortly After Returning |
Complete Refurbishment
On Wednesday, November 9, 2005, TEC Rig 12 returned from Oklahoma City completely refurbished from the frame up. Under TEC's long-standing refurbishment program, the company tries to have each rig completely refurbished ten years after it is manufactured and then every seven years after that. TEC keeps one spare working rig, Rig 3, that the crews move into when their rigs are taken out of service for this work, which in some cases, takes as long as four months. Now that Rig 12 has returned, its crew will begin retooling the rig and moving out of Rig 3 to let the next crew move in.
That next crew will be the crew of Rig 2, which is scheduled to begin its reconstruction at National Oilwell in Lindsey, Oklahoma by the end of November. Rig 2, which has been committed to Chevron for more than four years and currently working for Chevron in Cayuga, will not receive just a standard refurbishment. In addition to being refurbished, this 1982 Franks rig will get a new Detroit Diesel Series 60, new, larger drawworks, brand new 96' National Oilwell mast with a load capaity of 220,000 pounds, disc assist brakes, and a crown and floor saver system. This will be a tough rig ready to continue its service for Chevron for years to come.
